Basketball Recap: East Nicolaus Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Rylee Gillespie and Makinze Massey

East Nicolaus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They received a blow as they fell 55-39 to the Durham Trojans. The Spartans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

East Nicolaus' loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Makinze Massey, who went 7 of 12 on her way to 17 points along with six rebounds and three steals, and Rylee Gillespie, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine assists. Gillespie is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played.

Durham got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kyleigh Flux out in front who went 7 for 9 en route to 15 points and seven boards. Lucy Pezzetti was another key player, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds.

East Nicolaus' defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-5. As for Durham, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

East Nicolaus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 29-24 loss against Winters on the 7th. As for Durham, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 38-34 victory against Colusa on the 7th.
