Basketball Recap: Aaliyah Wilcox's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Destiny Christian Academy over El Camino

After flying high against Woodland last Thursday, Destiny Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Destiny Christian Academy Lions took a 46-29 bruising from the El Camino Eagles on Friday. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aaliyah Wilcox, who posted 14 points. Wilcox is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 11 games she's played.

Even though they lost, Destiny Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as El Camino only pulled down six offensive rebounds.

Leading El Camino to victory were Calista Wold and Maraia Rokosiga. Wold dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Rokosiga earned 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Stake, who put up nine points and three steals.

Destiny Christian Academy's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-8. As for El Camino, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 5-6.

Destiny Christian Academy will venture away from home to challenge Natomas at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Wilcox and Ana Elkins. As for El Camino, they will head out on the road to face off against Rio Linda at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Linda will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something El Camino surely won't give up without a fight.
