Soccer Game Preview: Alexander vs. Rome

Alexander hasn't had much luck against Rome recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Alexander Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Rome Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a four-game winning streak alive.

Alexander had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the three-goal drubbing they dealt South Paulding on Friday. Alexander's defense stepped up to hand South Paulding a 3-0 shutout. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Spartans are ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, everything went Rome's way against Villa Rica on Friday as Rome made off with a 5-2 win. The result was nothing new for Wolves, who have now won three contests by three goals or more so far this season.

Rome pushed their record up to 6-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored nine goals over those three matches. As for Alexander, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Alexander couldn't quite get it done against Rome in their previous meeting back in March of 2022 as they fell 2-0. Can Alexander avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
