Football Recap: Medicine Lodge Comes Up Short

Medicine Lodge played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 47-10 loss at the hands of the Sterling Black Bears. The Indians were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-2.

Zane Farney was his usual excellent self, rushing for 193 yards and five TDs on only 15 carries for Sterling. Farney's rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 14th straight game with at least 114 rushing yards dating back to last season. Speaking of playmakers, who could forget Wyatt Newberry, who went all the way with a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Medicine Lodge now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Sterling, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Looking ahead, Medicine Lodge will look to defend their home field on Friday against South Sumner [Caldwell/South Haven] at 7:00 p.m. As for Sterling, they will venture away from home to square off against Conway Springs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Black Bears will be up against the Cardinals' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
