Basketball Recap: Aquinas Comes Up Short

Aquinas has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 50-45 heartbreaker at the hands of the Kearney Catholic Stars. While the Monarchs didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Stars 17-8 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Aquinas still got an impressive performance from Faith Samek, who posted 13 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Another player making a difference was Riley Campbell, who earned nine points and five assists.

Danielle Seim produced another solid effort dropping a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds for Kearney Catholic. Those 16 boards gave Seim a new career-high. Kaelin Key also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Aquinas' loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Kearney Catholic, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Aquinas has already played their next game, a 69-63 defeat against Concordia on the 27th. As for Kearney Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-47 win against Scotus on the 27th.
