Preview: Mar Vista Mariners vs. Montgomery Aztecs
Mar Vista is 0-7 against Montgomery since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Mar Vista Mariners' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Montgomery Aztecs at 3:30 p.m. on December 27th. Mar Vista will be strutting in after a win while Montgomery will be coming in after a defeat.
Even though Mar Vista has not done well against Coronado recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. Mar Vista managed a 29-25 victory over Coronado.
Mar Vista relied on the efforts of Allyson Bell, who scored 11 points, and Anissa Smith, who scored 12 points. The match was Smith's third in a row with at least ten points.
Meanwhile, Montgomery's 24-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They had to suffer through a rough 62-27 loss at the hands of Cathedral Catholic. Montgomery was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-10.
The win got Mar Vista back to even at 2-2. As for Montgomery, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.
Mar Vista took a serious blow against Montgomery in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, falling 62-26. Thankfully for Mar Vista, Christina Bowen (who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
