After a string of eight wins, Leuzinger's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 64-63 to the Lawndale Cardinals. The Olympians were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Despite the loss, Leuzinger had strong showings from Brianna Ike, who went 9 of 16 en route to 23 points along with three steals and three blocks, and Tatyana Aubry, who posted 22 points and five assists. That was a full 34.9% of Leuzinger's points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Darion Autrey was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Leuzinger was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 6 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 8.4.

Telayia Fuller continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Lawndale, dropping a triple-double on 22 points, ten rebounds, and ten steals. Fuller's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kalani Pearson, who put up 18 points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Leuzinger's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-9. As for Lawndale, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Leuzinger didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-46 loss against Rio Mesa on the 18th. As for Lawndale, they will take on Troy at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Lawndale has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.
