Volleyball Recap: PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central had lost seven straight headed into Thursday's match, but Jaycee Gusemann didn't let it get to eight. The Bluejays walked away with a 2-0 win over the Illini Central Cougars on Thursday with plenty of help from Gusemann, who had 13 digs and three aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central never let Illini Central on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-22.

Despite the loss, Illini Central still got an impressive performance from Morgan Peterson, who had 21 digs and two aces. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallori Thomas, who had ten digs and ten assists.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central's victory bumped their record up to 6-16. As for Illini Central, they dropped their record down to 3-22 with the defeat, which was their eighth straight at home.

PORTA/Ashland-Chandlerville Central didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 win against South County on the 17th. As for Illini Central, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Astoria/VIT on the 18th.
