After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Lake Travis, Westlake was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Del Valle Cardinals 71-7. Considering the Chaparrals have won six contests by more than 22 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Westlake's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braden Riddell, who rushed for 41 yards and one score, and also picked up 40 receiving yards and one touchdown. Niko Gabryluk-Melendez also helped with two TDs in total.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Westlake was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 383 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Despite the loss, Del Valle saw an underclassman step up: sophomore First Green rushed for 131 yards and one score on only six carries. Those 131 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Green.

Westlake pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.6 points over those games. As for Del Valle, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-8.

Westlake didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 45-35 defeat against Dripping Springs on the 7th. As for Del Valle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 27-20 victory against Akins on the 6th.
