Preview: San Diego Cavers vs. Holtville Vikings
The San Diego Cavers will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Holtville Vikings at 5:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Thursday, it was a hard-fought contest, but San Diego had to settle for a 48-46 defeat against Vista. While losing is never fun, San Diego can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while Vista is ranked 52nd).
Despite the defeat, San Diego got a solid performance out of Mackenzie Nitzel, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 22 rebounds. Nitzel is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lara Saucedo, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Holtville had to suffer through a rough 64-32 loss at the hands of Vincent Memorial.
Their wins bumped San Diego to 3-3 and Vista to 6-0.
San Diego couldn't quite finish off Holtville in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 and fell 45-42. Thankfully for San Diego, Kamryn Walker (who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 10 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
