Basketball Game Preview: Vincent Memorial Scots vs. Central Spartans

Vincent Memorial and Central are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2021, but not for long. The Vincent Memorial Scots will be playing in front of their home fans against the Central Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Vincent Memorial really took it to Palo Verde Valley for the full four quarters, racking up a 64-24 victory. The Scots have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 22 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Central waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They strolled past the Yellow Jackets with points to spare, taking the game 54-36.

Central found their leader in sophomore Maryanne Barrett, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 steals. Central is undefeated when Barrett posts five or more steals, but 8-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Victoria Zamora, who posted 20 points and four steals.

Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Vincent Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 15-11.

Vincent Memorial took their victory against Central when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 58-36. Will Vincent Memorial repeat their success, or does Central have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
