Baseball Recap: Coastal Homeschool's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Coastal HomeSchool came into Saturday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past the Providence Athletic Club Panthers 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hurricanes have posted since March 15th.

Jace Poppell was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Coastal HomeSchool's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-1 (and 4-11 when he doesn't).

Poppell wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Max Myrick, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. Those two hits gave Myrick a new career-high.

Coastal HomeSchool's victory bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Providence Athletic Club, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Coastal HomeSchool will venture away from home to challenge Robert Toombs Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Providence Athletic Club, they will head out to square off against Patrick Henry Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
