Softball Game Preview: Newnan Cougars vs. Trinity Christian Lions

The Newnan Cougars will square off against the Trinity Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Newnan: they have been struggling with six straight losses at home, while Trinity Christian has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Newnan's offense. They lost 16-0 to Carrollton on Thursday.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Trinity Christian duked it out with Whitewater on Tuesday. The Lions blew past the Wildcats 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Mary Ruth Adkins made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Adkins was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September.

In other batting news, Shiloh Stewart was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in September. Elizabeth McCarthy was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Trinity Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.5 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.8.

Trinity Christian now has a winning record of 11-10. As for Newnan, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-17.
