Soccer Game Preview: Argonaut vs. Union Mine

The Argonaut Mustangs will head out to take on the Union Mine Diamondbacks at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Argonaut is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.6 goals per game this season.

Union Mine better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if Argonaut's game on Wednesday is any indication, that's when Argonaut really gets things going. Everything went the Mustangs' way against El Dorado as they made off with a 3-0 victory. Give Argonaut's defense some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.

They hit El Dorado with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Jimena Lopez, Darci Woods, and Kailey Carney.

Meanwhile, Union Mine fell victim to Liberty Ranch and their airtight defense on Wednesday. They came up short against the Hawks, falling 7-0. While losing is never fun, Union Mine can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 855th, while Liberty Ranch are ranked 168th).

Argonaut has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Union Mine, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7-2.

Argonaut was able to grind out a solid win over Union Mine in their previous matchup back in December of 2025, winning 2-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
