Baseball Game Preview: Evans Knights vs. Augusta Christian Lions

The Evans Knights will square off against the Augusta Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither Evans nor Augusta Christian posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Evans is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since March 14, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Eastside. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Patrick Matsunaga spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Evans is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Alex Gonzalez was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Bryant Rushing also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, Augusta Christian lost 9-1 to Varsity Opponent on Tuesday.

Augusta Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ethan Duckworth, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles Duckworth has posted since back in April of 2024.

Augusta Christian's defeat dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Evans, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
