Basketball Recap: Maxwell Falls Short of Loyalton in the Playoffs

Maxwell and Loyalton squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Maxwell had to settle for second. They lost 51-28 to the Loyalton Grizzlies. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now lost five in a row.

Despite the defeat, Maxwell saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Karina Perez posted 15 points. The dominant performance gave Perez a new career-high in points.

Catherine Petterson was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 11 boards for Loyalton. Petterson's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Josie Petterson, who earned 14 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Maxwell's loss dropped their record down to 3-22. As for Loyalton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-8.

Maxwell does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Loyalton, they have already played their next game, a 51-26 defeat against Fall River on the 21st.
