Basketball Recap: Don Lugo Piles Up the Points Against Compton Early College

There's no place like home for Don Lugo, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They blew past the Compton Early College Rising Phoenix 49-5 on Tuesday.

Leading Don Lugo to victory were Sienna Robles and Maya Hodges. Robles went 7 for 9 on her way to 15 points, while Hodges went 5 of 9 en route to 10 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Robles a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caidence Shue, who posted two points and three steals.

Don Lugo smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Don Lugo has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 23.3 points per game. As for Compton Early College, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Don Lugo won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ontario at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ontario's defense has only allowed 28.1 points per game this season, so Don Lugo's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Compton Early College, they will head out to square off against Summit View West on January 16th.
