Baseball Game Preview: Winthrop Ramblers vs. Mount Abram Roadrunners

The Winthrop Ramblers are taking a road trip to face off against the Mount Abram Roadrunners at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Winthrop has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Winthrop's last matchup with Monmouth Academy could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Wednesday. The Ramblers lost 15-1 to the Mustangs. The defeat continues a trend for the Ramblers in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Mount Abram had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Falcons as they made off with a 10-2 win.

Brennan Mitchell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one triple. Mount Abram is undefeated when Mitchell posts two or more runs, but 2-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaiden Longley, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in June of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Eben Laliberte, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Winthrop's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Mount Abram, their record is now an identical 5-7.

Winthrop came out on top in a nail-biter against Mount Abram in their previous meeting on Saturday, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ramblers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
