Basketball Recap: Sienna Kirsch's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Cambria Heights over River Valley

If Cambria Heights was riding high fresh off their 60-27 takedown of Homer-Center last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cambria Heights Highlanders fell 47-35 to the River Valley Panthers on Tuesday. The Highlanders have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Cambria Heights' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sienna Kirsch, who posted seven points along with seven boards and four steals. Kirsch is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 14 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracey Vinglish, who had 12 points.

River Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ava Persichetti out in front who went 8 of 18 on her way to 19 points and six assists. Alessia LaMantia was another key player, putting up eight points along with eight steals and five boards.

Cambria Heights now has a losing record at 2-3. As for River Valley, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cambria Heights will welcome Conemaugh Township at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for River Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Purchase Line at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. River Valley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.5 points per game this season.
