Elgin proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by five) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Hoffman Estates Hawks 2-1. Given Elgin's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Hoffman Estates are ranked 175th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Alex Villaruel and Jayden Plancarte scored both of Elgin's goals, bringing their combined season tally to four goals.

Elgin now has a winning record of 4-3-1. As for Hoffman Estates, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-3-2.

Coming up, Elgin will take on Dundee-Crown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Hoffman Estates, they will venture away from home to face off against Larkin at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
