Football Recap: South Pontotoc Takes a Loss

Friday just wasn't the day for South Pontotoc's offense. They were beaten by the New Albany Bulldogs 42-0 on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.

Braden Shettles continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for New Albany, throwing for 226 yards and five TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes. Those five passing touchdowns gave Shettles a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylen Knox, who gained 68 total yards and a touchdown.

South Pontotoc's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for New Albany, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

South Pontotoc will challenge North Pontotoc at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' defense has only allowed 12.4 points per game this season, so the Cougars' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for New Albany, they will take on Tishomingo County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Braves' rather soft defense (which has allowed 32.29 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
