Basketball Recap: Union City Takes a Loss

Union City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a hard 50-33 fall against the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-47 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Union City lost, don't look at Brooke Vantassel. Despite the final result, she went 8 of 14 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. Hannah Cole was another key player, putting up five points.

Even though they lost, Union City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Union City's defeat dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Mercyhurst Prep, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-6.

Union City is taking a road trip to square off against North East at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they will face off against Girard at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
