San Clemente and Newbury Park squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but San Clemente had to settle for second. They took a 24-13 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Newbury Park Panthers.

Defeat or not, San Clemente got some senior leadership from Cole Herlean and Colin Kohl. Herlean picked up 114 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Kohl rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown. Herlean really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 80 yards.

A big part of Newbury Park's victory came down to the chemistry between Brady Smigiel and his top target Shane Rosenthal. Smigiel threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns while Rosenthal picked up 94 receiving yards and a touchdown. Newbury Park also got a significant boost from Tyler Stromsoe, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 88 yards.

San Clemente's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Newbury Park, the win for them keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
