Football Game Preview: Vela Sabercats vs. Palmview Lobos

Vela is a perfect 3-0 against Palmview since October of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Sabercats will welcome the Lobos at 7:30 p.m. Vela's defense has only allowed nine points per game this season, so Palmview's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Vela blew McAllen Memorial out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Thursday McAllen Memorial got their revenge. The Sabercats fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 31-28. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Sabercats, who until this game were averaging nine points allowed.

Tyler Ruiz put forth a good effort for the losing side as he threw for 170 yards and three TDs on only 15 passes.

While Vela came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for McAllen Memorial: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 23.5%. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for the Sabercats; they were averaging 60.7%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 60.7%.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Palmview, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-13 win over Juarez-Lincoln on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Lobos in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won four in a row.

Palmview's win bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Vela, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2.

Vela strolled past Palmview in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 by a score of 35-18. Will the Sabercats repeat their success, or do the Lobos have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
