Football Recap: Strong Effort on D from Mekkhei Williams and Jermaine Dashiell Leads Northeastern over First Flight

Northeastern won the last time they faced First Flight and Zak Ishman did his part to make sure it happened again. The Eagles took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 47-6 victory over the Nighthawks for which the team can thank Ishman, who threw for 203 yards and four touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. He has become a key player for Northeastern: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Northeastern's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB ten times. The heavy lifting was done by Mekkhei Williams and Jermaine Dashiell, who racked up four sacks between them. Dashiell is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last 14 games he's played dating back to last season.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Northeastern, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Uzziah Harney, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Northeastern's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 45.0 points over those games. As for First Flight, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeastern will take on Hertford County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 27.14 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for First Flight, they will face off against Pasquotank County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers' defense has only allowed 8.6 points per game this season, so the Nighthawks' offense will have their work cut out for them.
