Baseball Game Preview: Lowndes Vikings vs. Suwannee Bulldogs

Lowndes is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Suwannee is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Vikings will host the Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lowndes 3.9, Suwannee 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Lowndes is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Creekside, who was ranked 16th in their home state at the time (Lowndes was ranked 19th). The Vikings fell just short of the Knights by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Suwannee got the win against Santa Fe on Friday by a conclusive 9-2. Considering the Bulldogs have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jace Moran made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Dillon Greene was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Noah Lopez, who scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Suwannee has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Lowndes, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-9 record this season.

Lowndes took their victory against Suwannee when the teams last played back in March of 2019 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
