Baseball Recap: Hoggard Gets the Win

While Hoggard's victory against Broughton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Vikings sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the Capitals on Thursday. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Capitals recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

London Summers looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Hoggard: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 4-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hoggard saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bair Kunyel, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Colin Kilcommons was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Hoggard's win bumped their record up to 9-6. As for Broughton, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-4 record.

Looking ahead, Hoggard will look to defend their home field on Monday against D.H. Conley at 4:00 p.m. Hoggard's pitchers better be ready for this one: D.H. Conley has averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Broughton, they are taking a road trip to face off against Ashley at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Screaming Eagle have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.92 runs per game on average), something the Capitals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
