Softball Recap: Gilmer Comes Up Short

After flying high against Heritage on Tuesday, Gilmer came back down to earth. The Bobcats fell 8-3 to the Generals on Thursday. The Bobcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Generals earlier this season, when they won 16-4.

Braley Stewart put in work no matter where she played. She tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mary Grace Jones was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That double was her first of the season.

Gilmer's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Heritage, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Coming up, Gilmer will square off against Coahulla Creek at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Heritage, they will face off against Ringgold at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
