Basketball Game Preview: San Juan Spartans vs. Golden Sierra Grizzlies

San Juan hasn't had much luck against Golden Sierra recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The San Juan Spartans will head out to square off against the Golden Sierra Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m.

San Juan is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday. They were beaten by Woodland Christian 64-11. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1316th, while the Cardinals are ranked 376th).

Meanwhile, Golden Sierra was able to grind out a solid victory over Mesa Verde on Friday, taking the game 36-24.

San Juan better focus on containing Mary Nicole Turner and Scarlet Harvey as the pair were huge in Golden Sierra's win. Turner dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten steals, while Harvey almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 steals. Harvey has become a key player for Golden Sierra: the team is 6-3 when she posts at least five steals, but 3-9 otherwise.

Golden Sierra smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive matchups.

San Juan's defeat dropped their record down to 1-17. As for Golden Sierra, their win bumped their record up to 9-12.

San Juan was dealt a bruising 52-16 loss at the hands of Golden Sierra in their previous meeting back in January. Can San Juan avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
