Recap: South El Monte Eagles vs. Marshall Eagles
The South El Monte Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Marshall 59-22. While losing is never fun, South El Monte can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 911th, while Marshall is ranked 369th).
Marshall got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaitlan Sakuma out in front who scored 12 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Jolynn Alibar, who scored 13 points.
South El Monte has not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. As for Marshall, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South El Monte will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Rosemead at 5:00 p.m. on January 8, 2024. Marshall will finish 2023 at home by hosting Pasadena at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th.
