Softball Recap: Basalt Takes a Loss

Basalt had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 3-11 to make it four. They came up short against the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers, falling 23-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 on Saturday.

Hadley Ivy made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Yana Esquivel was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.

As for Montezuma-Cortez, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-12. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Montezuma-Cortez's side, Aubrey Taveria was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs Taveria has posted over her last ten contests. Faith Muzzy also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Basalt has already played their next matchup, a 19-5 win against Battle Mountain on the 16th. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 22-4 victory against Aspen on the 16th.
