Basketball Game Preview: Oxford Academy Patriots vs. Pioneer Titans

Oxford Academy is 0-10 against Pioneer since January of 2020 but things could change on Monday. The Oxford Academy Patriots will look to defend their home court against the Pioneer Titans at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Oxford Academy beats Pioneer with 44 points on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Oxford Academy snuck past Woodbridge with a 44-40 win on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Meanwhile, Pioneer didn't have too much trouble with Bishop's on Saturday as they won 54-37.

Pioneer's win came from a few key players Oxford Academy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Riley Almendarez, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Aryanna Reyes, who posted 12 points along with six assists and five steals.

Pioneer is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.4 points per game. As for Oxford Academy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-5.

Oxford Academy lost to Pioneer at home by a decisive 54-35 margin in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Almendarez, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 14 rebounds.
