After a string of three wins, the Abraham Lincoln Railsplitters's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. Their rough 57-34 defeat to Carver High School of Engineering & Science might stick with them for a while. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Abraham Lincoln has suffered since December 11, 2023.
Despite the loss, Abraham Lincoln saw an underclassman step up: Makayla Taylor-Haynes scored 14 points. That was a full 41.2% of Abraham Lincoln's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Savannah Hall was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds for Carver High School of Engineering & Science. Hall continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Isabella Brown was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven steals.
Abraham Lincoln's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Carver High School of Engineering & Science, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-6.
Abraham Lincoln's road trip will continue as they head out to face Dobbins-Randolph Vo-Tech at 10:00 a.m. on January 15th. As for Carver High School of Engineering & Science, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Parkway Northwest at 3:15 p.m. Parkway Northwest comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
