Softball Recap: Monday's Victory Is Fort Calhoun's Sixth in Last Eight Outings

Fort Calhoun took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Yutan-Mead, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Pioneers narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Patriots 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pioneers have posted since August 23rd.

The team relied heavily on Emily Warfield, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since September 4th.

Fort Calhoun hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in nine consecutive contests.

Fort Calhoun has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Yutan-Mead, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Fort Calhoun will head out to take on Central City at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bison's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Pioneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Yutan-Mead, they are taking a road trip to square off against Ralston at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Patriots 2.2, the Rams 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
