Baseball Recap: Seckinger Comes Up Short

Seckinger dropped to 4-3 on Monday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Lanier Longhorns by a score of 5-4. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Longhorns apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2025.

Seckinger handed starting duties to Landon Niemotka, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Niemotka has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Seckinger saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kingston Ruggs, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Lanier, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Lanier's side, they got a great performance from Ethan Curtis as he struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. That's the most strikeouts Curtis has posted since back in March of 2025.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Sampona, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Elias Barsikh, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

While Seckinger had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
