Basketball Recap: Lassen Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Kinley Somerville and Nellie Ratcliff

Lassen lost against University Prep back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lassen Grizzlies lost 59-36 to the University Prep Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Grizzlies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 661st, while the Panthers are ranked 73rd).

Despite the loss, Lassen had strong showings from Nellie Ratcliff, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards, and Kinley Somerville, who went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points. Somerville is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. Brook Medovitch was another key player, putting up seven points.

Lassen has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for University Prep, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 15-1.

Lassen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 72-62 defeat against Yreka on the 21st. As for University Prep, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 55-47 loss against Eureka on the 18th.
