Baseball Recap: Dirigo Beats Boothbay for Their Third Straight Victory

Dirigo lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Boothbay, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's game. The Cougars never let the Seahawks get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Wednesday. With that win, the Cougars brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Caiden Skidgell made a splash no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ty LaPointe, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaeden Swan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Dirigo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .650. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Dirigo's third in a row) raised their record to 6-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Boothbay, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-11.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dirigo will take on Mountain Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Boothbay, they will challenge Madison at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
