Basketball Recap: Portage Extends Winning Streak to Two

Portage won the last time they faced Conemaugh Township, and Kendall Bednarski did her part to make sure it happened again. The Portage Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Conemaugh Township Indians 49-46 thanks in part to Bednarski, who posted 33 points and eight steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Portage's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Cassidy Burkett, who earned four points along with nine boards and three steals. Those nine rebounds gave her a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Conemaugh Township still got an impressive performance from Ava Byer, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Byer has been hot, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Mayce Kordell was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

The win made it two in a row for Portage and bumps their season record up to 11-8. As for Conemaugh Township, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.

Portage will venture away from home to square off against Cambria Heights at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Cambria Heights is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season. As for Conemaugh Township, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against United at 7:15 p.m.
