Volleyball Recap: Van Alstyne Comes Up Short

If Van Alstyne was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Panther Creek on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Panthers fell just short of the Richland Raiders by a score of 3-2 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in September.

Van Alstyne took Richland into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 19-25, 25-27, 25-19, 15-13.

Richland found their leader in sophomore Bella Viernes, who had six assists and five aces.

Van Alstyne's defeat dropped their record down to 23-11. As for Richland, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-12.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Van Alstyne is set to face off against their familiar foe Sanger at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Richland will square off against rival Aubrey at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
