Softball Recap: Columbus Takes a Loss

Columbus extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 8-12. They came up short against the Marion County Eagles, falling 13-1. Surprisingly, this marked the Blue Devils' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Columbus saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubrie McBride, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for Marion County, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Marion County, who have now won 11 matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

On Marion County's side, Lindsay Bagley made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Bagley has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kinsley Barrow, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Taner Tyler, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbus will head out to challenge St. Anne-Pacelli at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.9 runs per game this season. As for Marion County, they will venture away from home to face off against Hawkinsville at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
