Preview: Kennedy Thunderbirds vs. Chavez Titans
Kennedy is 1-9 against Chavez since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Kennedy Thunderbirds will head out on the road to square off against the Chavez Titans at 6:30 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Kennedy has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Chavez will arrive with four straight victories.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 90-21, which was the final score in Kennedy's tilt against Shafter on Tuesday. Kennedy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-10.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Imaree Curry, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Valeria Payan-Medina, who scored two points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Chavez was able to grind out a solid win over Taft on Thursday, taking the game 52-41.
Kennedy has not been sharp recently as the team's lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Chavez, they pushed their record up to 12-9 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road.
Kennedy came up short against Chavez in their previous meeting back in January, falling 56-47. Can Kennedy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
