Basketball Game Preview: Monterey Dores vs. Watsonville Wildcatz

The Monterey Dores will venture away from home to square off against the Watsonville Wildcatz at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Monterey turned things around against Everett Alvarez on Thursday. They took down the Eagles 57-40.

Meanwhile, everything went Watsonville's way against Soledad on Thursday as Watsonville made off with a 47-26 win. The Wildcatz have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Watsonville's win came from a few key players Monterey will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Stephanie Martinez, who went 6 for 13 on her way to 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leilani Yasin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 boards.

Watsonville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Watsonville's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Monterey, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-10.

Monterey skirted past Watsonville 55-53 in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Does Monterey have another victory up their sleeve, or will Watsonville turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
