Baseball Game Preview: Eastern Comets vs. Rochester Zebras

The Eastern Comets will take on the Rochester Zebras at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Eastern has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight defeats, while Rochester will come in with three straight victories.

On Tuesday, Eastern came up short against Angola and fell 4-1.

Rochester came out on top against Bremen on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Zebras took their game against the Lions 8-3.

Conner Dunfee made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Rochester is 2-1 when Dunfee posts three or more RBI, but 11-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Linden Wilburn, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

Rochester was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in five consecutive matchups.

Rochester's record now sits at 13-15. As for Eastern, their loss dropped their record down to 19-11.

Eastern got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Rochester by a conclusive 16-8 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
