Softball Recap: Gretna East Takes Down Ranked Marian

Gretna East faced Marian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Griffins came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 4-0. For the Griffins, this counts as revenge for the 7-2 victory the Crusaders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2023.

Gretna East got a great performance from Hadley McDowell as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. McDowell has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Amanda Weis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The win snapped Gretna East's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 6-4 record. As for Marian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season.

Gretna East will look to defend their home field on Monday against Arlington. The Griffins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Marian, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, an 11-1 defeat against Millard South on the 6th.
