Basketball Game Preview: Montclair Cavaliers vs. Chino Cowboys

Montclair is 1-9 against Chino since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Montclair Cavaliers will be playing at home against the Chino Cowboys at 5:30 p.m.

Montclair is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They took a blow against Ontario, falling 50-22. The game marked the Cavaliers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Chino over Don Lugo in every quarter on their way to victory on Wednesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Chino blew Don Lugo out of the water with a 64-18 final score. The Cowboys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Chino found their leader in sophomore Tess Oldenburg, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten steals. That's the most steals Oldenburg has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Zhya Holyfield, who posted 13 points in addition to eight steals and six assists.

Chino's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-5. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 36.5 points. As for Montclair, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-12.

Montclair took a serious blow against Chino in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 75-32. Can Montclair avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
