Basketball Recap: Mira Mesa Comes Up Short

Mira Mesa was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They took a 56-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cathedral Catholic Dons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 40-34 back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Mira Mesa lost, don't look at Ivorii Seals. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds. That was a full 48.9% of Mira Mesa's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. Jona Aguirre also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Mckinnley Hanlon continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cathedral Catholic, putting up 26 points along with eight boards and six steals. Hanlon has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Lilly Teresi was another key player, posting nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Mira Mesa's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Cathedral Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which lines up perfectly with their 18-6 record this season.

Mira Mesa didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 40-21 victory against Olympian on the 8th. As for Cathedral Catholic, they have also already played their next game, a 61-60 loss against Scripps Ranch on the 5th.
