Basketball Game Preview: Westridge Tigers vs. Southwestern Academy Sun

Westridge is on a five-game streak of home losses, Southwestern Academy a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck will change on Friday. The Westridge Tigers will host the Southwestern Academy Sun at 5:00 p.m.

Last Monday, Westridge was beaten by Rio Hondo Prep 54-22. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1071st, while the Kares are ranked 495th).

Meanwhile, Southwestern Academy had to endure a nine-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past New Covenant Academy 37-14 on Monday.

Southwestern Academy's win came from a few key players Westridge will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Valza Jusufi, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards. That makes it eight consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Southwestern Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Marianne Okwuadi, who posted eight points and 18 rebounds.

Southwestern Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 32 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Westridge's loss dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Southwestern Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-9.
