Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2021 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.

Travis Hunter of Collins Hill (Suwanee, Ga.) of is the 2021 MaxPreps Georgia High School Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-1, 175-pound wide receiver and cornerback made a splash Wednesday when he switched his college commitment from Florida State to Jackson State to play for Hall of Fame coach Deion Sanders.

Hunter, who was the MaxPreps No. 1 cornerback and No.1 wide receiver entering the 2021 season, led the Eagles to their first state title with a 24-8 win over Milton in the Georgia AAAAAAA finals on Dec. 11. Injured for part of the season, Hunter hauled in 76 receptions for over 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns despite missing five games. The nation's top-rated recruit posted 23 tackles, four interceptions and forced a fumble on defense.

Collins Hill heads into Saturday's matchup having won every game by at least 15 points, outscoring its opposition 558-83 with six shutouts this season to finish as the top-ranked team in Georgia.

Hunter is a repeat Player of the Year winner, grabbing the honor in 2020, making an impact on both sides of the ball for the Eagles, who went 12-3 en route to the state's AAAAAAA championship game.

Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released in early January.
