Football Recap: Bodee Maslak and Jacob Morenz Secure Win for Tonganoxie

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Spring Hill, Tonganoxie was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the Lansing Lions 40-15. The Chieftains haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

A big part of Tonganoxie's win came down to the chemistry between Bodee Maslak and his top target Jacob Morenz. Maslak threw for 228 yards and two TDs on only 19 passes while Morenz gained 187 total yards and two touchdowns. The dominant performance also gave Morenz a new career-high in receiving yards (163).

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Tonganoxie proved: they limited Lansing to a paltry 2.6 yards per carry. The Chieftains' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.5.

Although Lansing took the loss, they still got scores from Mehki Stephens and Jaxon Pollard.

Tonganoxie now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Lansing, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tonganoxie will venture away from home to take on Paola on Friday. As for Lansing, they will head out to face off against West at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
