Basketball Recap: Chico Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Chico unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 60-59 to the Enterprise Hornets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Hornets are ranked 308th).

When it comes to explaining why Chico lost, don't look at Kayleigh Solano. Despite the final result, she went 10 of 16 on her way to 29 points and seven boards. The dominant performance also gave Solano a new career-high in blocks (two). Ellie Harrison was another key player, putting up ten points along with eight rebounds and five assists.

Even though they lost, Chico smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Enterprise's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tianna Lowe, who went 7 for 17 en route to 20 points and four steals. The contest was Lowe's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Mcdaniels, who posted six points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

Chico's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-7. As for Enterprise, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-11.

Chico has already played their next matchup, a 62-53 defeat against Alameda on the 25th. As for Enterprise, they will be playing at home against Red Bluff at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
